The Lost Brothers - Trails Of The Lonely (Parts I & III) (2008)

Link

Irish Siblings The Lost Brothers bring to mind the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Kings Of Convenience, Herman Dune and Bright Eyes in their meticulously presented folk rock jaunts, linking up for impeccably rendered vocal harmonies and a slew of stealthily intricate instrumental arrangements, beginning with the memorable 'Angry At The Sun' - a lovely and low key piece of two-way balladry. Next up comes the more full-blooded 'Fallen', which incorporates a country & Western-styled backing ensemble into their sound, only for 'Ribbons & Bows' to stir up some Pete Molinari-esque rockabilly retro-ism. Far from being a limited format, these ramshackle acoustic jaunts offer a broad range of musical approaches, and a variety of different ways by which the brothers can get their enjoyable, harmonised ditties across to the listener. There's an old fashioned sound to the recordings that helps instill an atmosphere of vintage appeal without being so excessively entrenched in it as to transmit an air of kitsch - instead the production style remains very much in line with the timeless style of songwriting.
