The new album from Arab Strap/Lucky Pierre happy go lucky Aidan Moffat is called How to Get From Heaven to Scotland; and what a treat it is.
How to Get From Heaven to Scotland follows on from where Arab Strap’s last album left off.
It’s a collection of great, organic sounding songs which are catchy, hummable and happy.
I honestly thought the ‘miserable’ tag was a tad lazy for Arab Strap and hopefully this will go some way to get rid of it and show just what a talented writer Aidan Moffat really is.
Moffat’s new backing band is called ‘The Best Ofs‘ and the music is an eclectic mix of guitar led tracks, multi-instrument folk tracks and some minimal songs, but one thing they all have in common, their catchiness and pop accessibility.
Hopefully with the rolling membership of the band when playing live, they will be able to keep the atmosphere of the songs as they were recorded as you will want to sing along.
Favourite tracks include The Last Kiss. “The last Kiss is always the best” sings Aidan, and I almost believe him. This track has been on repeat all week!
Although I mentioned this follows on from Arab Strap’s last album, don’t let that put you off if you were never a big fan, there is so many different styles at play that it caters for many tastes.
I can’t recommend this enough, I really can’t. It’s exactly what is needed when the charts are full of X Factor / Pop Idol wafer-thin shallow, nonsense.
Aidan Moffat and the Best Ofs - How to Get From Heaven to Scotland is released on 14th February as a limited vinyl release.
The CD release is due for release on Monday 16th February. buzzinmusic
